PERFOMANCE OF BIOPHISIC CHARACTERS OF SOME RICE MUTANTS RE-SISTANT TO BROWN PLANTHOPPER

>

Mutant lines of A-227-5, Atomita-l, Mg-2 and Mg-8, and varieties of IR-26, Pelita I-I, Seratus Malam, Mudgo, TN-I and IR-36 were planted in 4 Kg of soilin the one gallon of plastic pot and were fertilized by 8 g of Urea and 4 g of TSP. Six and nine weeks after transplantation, sheaths of the second leave from each plant were cutted at the middle part with 28 - 30 J.I. of thickness by using frozen cut crossing and used as microscopic preparats.
The number of vasculer bundles, thickness of epidermis, and number of microhairs were observed in the microscope by using 250 x or 400 x enlargement. The experiment was conducted at Pasar Jumat by using Factorial Experiment in the Completely Randomized Design with two factors there were variety and age. Results of the experiment showed that number of vasculler bundles and number of microhairs were influenced by age, varieties, and the intereaction of age and varieties. The thickness of epidermis was not influ-enced by age and varieties, however it was significantly influenced by interaction of age and varieties. Number of vasculer bundles, number of microhair and thickness of epidermis in the varieties and mutant lines were not characteristic of resistance to brown planthopper. By.
